Gold Seeker Closing Report: Gold and Silver Fall Again

Gold remained near unchanged in Asia, saw slight losses in London, and fell as much as $10.50 to $1031.50 by about 10AM EST in New York before it rebounded to see only slight losses by late morning, but it then fell back off in afternoon trade and ended with a loss of 0.63%. Silver saw almost 1% gains in Asia and traded near unchanged in London before it fell as much as $0.462 to $16.628 midmorning in New York and then also rebounded a bit midday, but it then fell back off in afternoon trade and ended near its new session low of $16.46 with a loss of 3.34%.

Euro gold remained at about €701, platinum lost $25.50 to $1305.50, and copper fell slightly to about $2.99.

Gold and silver equities traded mostly slightly lower and ended with about 1% losses.

Tomorrow at 8:30AM EST brings Durable Goods Orders for September expected at 1.0%. Excluding transportation, orders are expected at 0.7%. At 10AM is the New Home Sales report for September expected at 440,000.

Oil ended higher on geopolitical concerns over Iran as traders looked forward to tomorrow’s inventory report.

The U.S. dollar index rose after Consumer Confidence came in lower than expected and encouraged some cash raising on worries over the economy.

Treasuries added to their early gains after a $44 billion 2 year note auction drew strong demand of 3.63 bid to cover.

The Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P traded mixed and ended near unchanged as decent earnings reports battled disappointing economic news.

Among the big names making news in the market today were Textron, Valero, AK Steel, Wynn, TD Ameritrade, US Steel, Honda, BP, and Johnson Controls.

Tanzanian Royalty’s (TRE) private placement, Great Basin’s (GBG) drill results, Gold Reserve’s (GRZ) government takeover, Seabridge’s (SA) drill results, Exeter’s (XRA) listing on the TSX, Fortuna’s (FVI.V) Environmental Impact Study, and Great Panther’s (GPR.TO) $10 million equity offering were among the big stories in the gold and silver mining industry making headlines today.

Gold Reserve says Venezuela seized mine, shares drop - "Gold Reserve (GRZ.TO) said on Tuesday the Venezuelan government had seized control of its Brisas gold property, deepening a dispute between the miner and Hugo Chavez's government, and pulling the company's shares down 15 percent.

The Toronto-listed company's rights to much of the deposit were taken away by the government earlier this year, and Gold Reserve filed for international arbitration last week, seeking to recoup billions of dollars in damages." More
