The Metals:

 

Gold remained near unchanged in Asia before it rose to see modest gains in London, but it then accelerated even higher in New York and ended at about its high of the session with a gain of 1.57%.  Silver followed a similar pattern and ended with a gain of 2.59%.

 

Euro gold rose to about €705, platinum gained $27 to $1330, and copper rose nearly 10 cents to about $3.02.

 

Gold and silver equities rose over 5% by early afternoon and remained near that level for the rest of the day.

Tomorrow at 8:30AM EST brings Personal Spending for September expected at -0.5%, Personal Income expected at 0.0%, PCE Prices expected at -0.5%, and Core PCE Prices expected at 0.2%.  At 9:45 is Chicago PMI for October expected at 48.9, at 9:55 is Michigan Sentiment for October expected at 70.0, and at 10AM is the third quarter Employment Cost Index expected at 0.4%.

Oil rose while the U.S. dollar index and treasuries fell after the stronger than expected GDP report encouraged risk taking again and inspired market participants to put cash to work into higher yielding assets.

 

The Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P rose about 2% on economic optimism after GDP came in higher thane expected.

 

Among the big names making news in the market today were Aetna, Nintendo, Boeing, Monster, Motorola, Kellogg, Sprint Nextel, Shell, Exxon Mobil, and P&G.
