FOMC Minutes from the fed’s November 4th meeting showed that fed members “said record-low interest rates might fuel “excessive” speculation in financial markets and possibly dislodge expectations for low inflation.”
“Members noted the possibility that some negative side effects might result from the maintenance of very low short-term interest rates for an extended period,” minutes of the Nov. 3-4 meeting said, “including the possibility that such a policy stance could lead to excessive risk-taking in financial markets or an unanchoring of inflation expectations.”

Oil fell back to about $76 after tepid economic data reinforced worries over energy demand.
The U.S. dollar index ended near unchanged as economic unease was offset by FOMC Minutes that reiterated the fed’s intentions to keep interest rates at record low levels for an extended period of time.
Treasuries added to early gains after today’s 5-year note auction saw a strong bid to cover of 2.81 at a high yield of just 2.175%.
The Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P fell in early trade on concerns over bank lending and mixed economic data, but stocks ended with only minor losses on pleasure with the fed’s continuation of easy money policy.
Among the big names making news in the market today were Barnes &Noble, Borders Group, Heinz, Hormel, Medtronic, Warner Music, Tribune, and Scripps.
The Commentary:
“The last time that the gold market was this overbought was back at the beginning of the big bull run that started in September of 2007... and look what happened then. There was a tiny sell-off that temporarily relieved the overbought position before the price powered higher... followed by a larger consolidation that started at the beginning of November and lasted till after Christmas... before powering higher to the absolute May 2008 top. From bottom to top, gold ran up about $370 before the bullion banks pulled the pin... or around 55%.
Since that peak 20 months ago, a massive inverted head-and-shoulders pattern had been building... that finally ended with the up-side breakout on August 29th... only days after September options expiry... and almost two years to the day after the last big run-up began in 2007. Is history repeating itself? When you look at the 3-year gold chart, it's not hard to see the similarity. The pattern also looks similar to the first big run-up in gold that started in July '05 and ran until about May '06.
So, if we're about to have another big run-up in prices over the next six months, a sell-off to correct this overbought position is highly likely and totally necessary. The only question would be is; how severe... and how long? But expect it... and welcome it if/when it comes... unpleasant though it may be. And if you're looking for that long-awaited entry point, that may be it.
If I may be so bold, let's apply the gains of the last big run-up to this potential run-up. We would be looking at a peak gold price [in percentage terms] of $1,457 in this rally... using $940 as the start of the breakout... and that's only if history repeats itself exactly as last time. And it could turn out to be less than this... or maybe more, a lot more. You, dear reader, are already familiar with the reason why gold could go much higher than this... and that's the resolution of the concentrated short positions in silver and gold that CFTC chairman Gary Gensler is working on. The other positive for silver, is its hugely bullish supply/demand fundamentals... which will trump all else, sooner or later. Maybe that's why Gensler want to act on this issue before that event occurs. We'll see.”– From Ed Steer’s Gold & Silver Daily, read the full report here.

Goldcorp Provides Update on 2009 Exploration Program - "Red Lake High Grade Zone Continues at Depth. Several assay intervals in excess of 60 grams per tonne in the deep High Grade Zone support the strong potential for gold resource to reserve conversion between the 46 and 50 levels, as well as for new gold resources below the 50 level. A new and growing area of high grade gold called the Far East Zone has also been identified up-plunge from the High Grade Zone. In the under-explored Party Wall area ("R Zone") between Campbell and Red Lake, strong results from the deepest drilling will direct an aggressive exploration campaign in 2010." More
