The Metals:
Gold rose as much as $8.85 to $1145.40 in early Asian trade before it fell in London and late morning trade New York trade to see a loss of $5.77 at as low as $1130.78 by around 11:15AM EST, but it then rallied back higher in the last couple hours of trade and ended near its earlier high with a gain of 0.6%. Silver rose 15 cents to $18.70 in Asia and fell to as much as 22 cents to $18.33 in London before it also rallied back higher in New York and ended with a gain of 0.59%.
Euro gold rose to about €788, platinum gained $37 to $1607, and copper fell slightly to about $3.38.
Gold and silver equities fell over 1% by late morning before they rebounded in afternoon trade, but they still ended with slight losses.

U.S. Foreclosures May Rise to 3 Million This Year Bloomberg
Tomorrow at 8:30AM EST brings CPI for December expected at 0.2%, Core CPI expected at 0.1%, and the Empire Manufacturing Survey for January expected at 12.00. At 9:15 are Capacity Utilization for December expected at 71.8% and Industrial Production expected at 0.6%, and at 9:55 is Michigan Sentiment for January expected at 74.0.

Oil and the U.S. dollar index fell slightly after Retail Sales came in worse than expected.
Treasuries added to early gains after today’s 30-year note auction saw a high yield of 4.640% with a bid to cover of 2.68.
The Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P rose on hopes for strong earnings reports.
Among the big names making news in the market today were JP Morgan, Bank of America, and Google.

Hecla Announces Record Silver Production of 10.9 Million Ounces in 2009; Provides Guidance for 2010 - "Hecla Mining Company (NYSE:HL) today announced record silver production of 10.9 million ounces, a 26% increase compared with 2008. Production records were also established for lead and zinc output with approximately 44,000 tons and 80,000 tons of each produced, respectively. Importantly, record production and improved prices for metals in 2009 significantly increased operating cash flow allowing Hecla to have more than $100 million in cash on hand at year end.
