The Metals:
Gold fell $1.50 to $1171.60 in Asia and rose to over 1% to $1185.07 in London before it fell back to see a gain of just $2.40 at $1175.50 at about 9AM EST in New York, but it then surged back higher for most of the rest of trade and ended near its noontime high of $1196.90 with a gain of 2.06%. Silver rose over 1% to $17.743 in London before it fell to see an over 1% loss at $17.302 by late morning in New York, but it then rallied back higher in the last couple of hours of trade and ended with a loss of just 0.34%.

Euro gold rose to a new all-time high at about €942, platinum gained $14.50 to $1657, and copper fell a few cents to about $3.11.
Gold and silver equities rose over 2% by late morning before they briefly fell to see about 2% losses at around 3PM EST, but they then climbed back higher in the last hour of trade and ended with about 1% gains.

Tomorrow at 8:30AM EST brings April’s jobs data. Nonfarm Payrolls are expected at 187,000, the Unemployment Rate is expected at 9.7%, Hourly Earnings are expected at 0.1%, and the Average Workweek is expected at 34.0. At 3PM is Consumer Credit for March expected at -$3.9 billion.

Oil fell to almost $77 a barrel as the U.S. dollar index and treasuries rose again on continued sovereign debt worries in Europe that sent the Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P markedly lower. The Dow fell almost 1,000 points before it rebounded in the last hour of trade, but all three indices still ended with over 3% losses.
Among the big names making news in the market today were Cigna, BP, CBS, Cablevision, Google, Amazon, AT&T, and Comcast.
The Commentary:
“Well, the rout in silver continued again yesterday... despite gold's positive close. As Ted Butler and I keeping harping on... silver is the center of the universe for the bullion banks. They have none, can't get any... and are naked short at least five months of world silver production on top of that. They're going to beat the living snot out of this market until they figure that they've covered as many of their short positions as they can. How long this process takes remains to be seen... but judging by the fact that silver was taken down almost $2 in one 24-hour period... I'd say that they are in one hell of a hurry to get it done.
Tomorrow morning [Friday] at 8:30 a.m. Eastern time is the US jobs report. I've got a ten spot that says that the U.S. bullion banks [led by JPMorgan] will hit both gold and silver hard... and silver the hardest... at, or just before, that report is released. This has been their standard operating procedure for at least the last five or six years... regardless of whether the numbers are positive or negative. As I pointed out earlier in this column, 'da boyz' took out silver's 50-day moving average like it wasn't there at all. Will they go after the 200-day moving average? Beats me, but it's not that far away. If the phone call goes out... and they collectively pull their bids at the appointed time... then 'Bob's your uncle!'
