Gold Seeker Closing Report: Gold and Silver End Mixed

Gold fell over 2% to as low as $1184.00 by about 4AM EST in Asia, but it then climbed steadily higher in London and New York and ended near its late session high of $1202.25 with a loss of just 0.75%. Silver fell to as low as $18.18 in Asia before it rose to as high as $18.632 in New York and ended with a gain of 0.87%.

Euro gold fell to about €937, platinum gained $26.50 to $1681.50, and copper rose over 8 cents to about $3.22.

Gold and silver equities chopped their way higher throughout most of trade and ended with over 2% gains.

There were no major economic reports today. Tomorrow at 10AM EST brings Wholesale Inventories for March expected at 0.5%.

Treasuries fell on Europe’s rescue that sent the Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P roughly 4% higher on the day.

Among the big names making news in the market today were Fannie Mae, Ford, and Dish.

Note: SPDR added 2.711 tonnes to a new record high holding and the LSE added 0.96 tonnes.

Silver Trust (SLV) Total Tonnes in Trust: 9,087.72: +76.22 change from yesterday’s data.

Timberline’s (TLR) second quarter results, US Gold’s (UXG) drill results, Great Basin’s (GBG) quarterly results, Allied Nevada’s (ANV) first quarter results, Golden Mineral’s (AUMN) drilling program, Gold Fields’ (GFI) new order mining right, Harmony’s (HMY) third quarter results, Endeavour’s (EXK) first quarter results, Coeur’s (CDE) first quarter results, Alexco’s (AXU) project update, and ECU’s (ECU.TO) sales milestone were among the big stories in the gold and silver mining industry making headlines today.
