The Metals:
Gold rose throughout most of trade and ended near its early afternoon high of $1246.72 with a gain of 1.92%. Silver rose to as high as $19.702 by late morning in New York and ended with a gain of 2.03%.

Euro gold rose to a new record high at about €983, platinum gained $40.50 to $1734.50, and copper fell a couple of cents to about $3.18.
Gold and silver equities rose over 1% at the open before they drifted back lower in late trade, but they still ended with decent gains.

Oil fell after the Energy Information Administration reported that crude inventories rose 1.9 million barrels, gasoline inventories fell 2.8 million barrels, and distillates rose 1.4 million barrels.
The U.S. dollar index rose as the euro fell on continued worries over Europe’s aid package.
Treasuries remained lower after today’s 10-year note auction drew a high yield of 3.458% with a bid to cover of 2.96.
The Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P rose over 1% on a positive economic growth outlook.
Among the big names making news in the market today were Macy’s, Blackstone, Morgan Stanley, CVS, General Motors, and Nokia.
