Gold Seeker Closing Report: Gold and Silver Gain With Stocks and Oil

Gold rose to as high as $1228.70 in London before it fell back off a bit in New York, but it still ended with a gain of 0.18%. Silver climbed to as high as $18.603 by late morning in New York before it dropped off some in the last couple of hours of trade, but it still ended with a gain of 0.87%.

Euro gold fell to about €951, platinum gained $8 to $1539, and copper gained 6 cents to about $3.34.

Gold and silver equities rose over 1% by late morning and remained near their highs into the close.

Oil rose as the U.S. dollar index and treasuries fell on somewhat better than expected economic data and positive company news that sent the Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P over 1% higher.

Among the big names making news in the market today were GM, Wal-Mart, BHP Billiton, Fannie and Freddie, Potash, Pactiv, Saks, American Apparel, and Netflix.

Note: Change in Total Tonnes from yesterday’s data: SPDR added 1.216 tonnes and the LSE added 0.71 tonnes.

COMEX Gold Trust (IAU) Total Tonnes in Trust: 92.38 - No change from yesterday’s data.

Silver Trust (SLV) Total Tonnes in Trust: 9151.03 - No change from yesterday’s data.

Tanzanian Royalty’s (TRE) closed private placement, Gammon Gold’s (GRS) new drill target, ITH’s (THM) drill results, Fortuna’s (FVI.V) new board appointment, Scorpio’s (SPM.TO) second quarter results, and Coeur’s (CDE) resumed activities in Bolivia were among the big stories in the gold and silver mining industry making headlines today.
