The Metals:
Gold traded mostly slightly higher in Asia and London and rose to as high as $1253.05 by about 9:30AM EST in New York before it fell back off a bit in choppy trade into the close, but it still ended with a gain of 0.43%. Silver climbed to a new 3 month high at as high as $19.66 before it also fell back off slightly in the last 4 hours of trade, but it still ended with a gain of 0.83%.
Euro gold rose to about €976, platinum gained $18.50 to $1545.50, and copper added another couple of cents to about $3.49.
Gold and silver equities rose over 1% by midmorning and remained near their highs into the close.

Tomorrow at 8:30AM EST brings August’s jobs data. Nonfarm Payrolls are expected at -120,000, the Unemployment Rate is expected at 9.6%, Hourly Earnings are expected at 0.1%, and the Average Workweek is expected at 34.2. At 10AM is the ISM Services report for August expected at 53.0.

Oil rose on decent economic data, worries about hurricanes and developing tropical storms in the Gulf of Mexico, and mixed reports over a new rig platform explosion and a possible oil sheen in the Gulf of Mexico.
The U.S. dollar index saw modest losses as traders positioned themselves ahead of tomorrow’s jobs report.
Treasuries fell as the Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P traded mostly slightly higher on decent economic data.
Among the big names making news in the market today were Avis and Dollar Thrifty, 3Par, HP, Dell, AOL, Sony, Verizon, and Burger King.
