The Metals:
Gold waffled on either side of unchanged in Asia and London before it fell almost 1% in early New York trade to as low as $1236.80 by a little before 9AM EST and then rebounded to see a slight gain at as high as $1250.45 by late morning, but it ultimately fell back off into the close and ended with a loss of 0.34%. Silver fell to as low as $19.68 and climbed to as high as $20.026 before it also fell back off in afternoon trade and ended with a loss of 0.15%.
Euro gold fell to about €978, platinum lost $11 to $1537.00, and copper fell another few cents to about $3.40.
Gold and silver equities rose about 1% by late morning before they fell back off a bit in afternoon trade, but they still ended with decent gains.

Oil rose after a pipeline in the Midwest was forced to shutdown after a leak.
The U.S. dollar index saw slight gains as the yen fell on strong data in China that reduced demand for the safe haven currency.
Treasuries fell on stronger than expected economic data in the US that sent the Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P modestly higher.
Among the big names making news in the market Friday were BP, Morgan Stanley, Nintendo, Wii, Nokia, and CBOE.
