The Metals:
Gold fell as much as $17.95 to $1352.50 in Asia, but it then rallied back higher for most of trade in New York and ended near its late morning high of $1372.75 with a gain of 0.07%. Silver fell to as low as $23.73 in Asia, but it then rallied back higher for most of the rest of trade and ended near its noontime high of $24.458 with a gain of 0.54%.
Euro gold climbed to over €980, platinum gained $2 to $1689.50, and copper climbed a couple of cents to about $3.85.
Gold and silver equities fell over 1% at the open before they rallied back to about unchanged by midmorning, but they then fell back off a bit midday and ended with modest losses.

Oil rose on strikes in France by refinery and port workers that forced the country to tap emergency reserves.
The U.S. dollar index saw impressive gains overseas, but it then erased its entire advance in US trading and ended with a loss in reaction to today’s poor Industrial Production reading.
Treasuries rose on the fed’s plans to create inflation.
The Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P rose on a strong earnings report from Citigroup that pushed financial stocks higher.
Among the big names making news in the market today were Hasbro, St. Jude and AGA Medical, Citigroup, Halliburton, Northeast and NSTAR, and Allergan.
