Gold Seeker Closing Report: Gold and Silver Climb Back Higher

Gold rose over 1% to as high as $1417.65 by midday in London before it fell to see a $2.90 loss at $1397.60 by late morning in New York, but it then rallied back higher in the last couple of hours of trade and ended with a gain of 0.26%. Silver climbed to $27.827 and dropped to $26.913 before it also rallied back higher and ended with a gain of 1.6%.

Euro gold rose to about €1029, platinum gained $2 to $1740, and copper climbed 5 cents to about $4.02.

Gold and silver equities fell about 1% by midmorning, but they then rallied back higher for most of the rest of trade and ended with about 1% gains at or near new all-time highs.

There were no major economic reports today. Tomorrow at 9:55AM EST brings Michigan Sentiment for November expected at 69.0.

Oil was unchanged while the U.S. dollar index rose on more worries about sovereign debt in Europe.

Among the big names making news in the market today were Wal-Mart, Viacom, Repsol, Cisco, and Netflix.

COMEX Gold Trust (IAU) Total Tonnes in Trust: 104.41 - No change from yesterday’s data.

Silver Trust (SLV) Total Tonnes in Trust: 10,718.82: +352.79 change from yesterday’s data.

Brigus Gold’s (BRD) project update, AngloGold’s (AU) project approval and quarterly results, Ivanhoe’s (IVN) third quarter results, and Silvermex’s (SMR.V) approved plan of arrangement with Genco were among the big stories in the gold and silver mining industry making headlines today.

Ivanhoe Mines Announces Financial Results and Review of Operations for the Third Quarter of 2010 - "Full-scale mine construction is underway at the Oyu Tolgoi Project. Production of the first concentrate is expected in late 2012, with a build up to the start of commercial production in 2013. The Project initially is being developed as an open-pit operation, with mining starting at the near-surface Southern Oyu deposits.
