The Metals:
Gold saw modest gains in Asia before it fell back to see an $11.32 loss at $1341.58 at about 10AM EST, but it then rallied back higher into the close and ended with a gain of 0.01%. Silver fell as much as 53 cents to $26.36 by about 10AM EST before it also rallied back higher in late trade and ended with a gain of 1%.
Euro gold fell about €991, platinum gained $3 to $1665, and copper remained at about $3.83.
Gold and silver equities fell slightly at the open, but they then rose to see modest gains by late morning and remained near that level for the rest of the day.

Oil fell on worries about global energy demand after China increased bank reserve requirements.
The U.S. dollar index ended lower as the Yen was steady on China’s move and the Euro climbed higher on hopes for a resolution for Ireland.
“Treasury 30-year bonds rose after the Federal Reserve acquired $24 million of the securities auctioned last week as part of an asset-purchase program aimed at lowering borrowing costs and stimulating economic growth.”
The Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P reversed early losses and ended with slight gains as traders digested China’s move and continued to debate the impacts of QE2.
Among the big names making news in the market Friday were VW, Pimco, GM, Time Warner, Harrrah’s, and Amgen.
