The Metals:
Gold rose $3.50 to as high as $1381.50 in Asia before it fell to see a loss of $8.66 at $1369.34 in midmorning New York trade, but it then bounced back higher into the close and ended with a loss of just 0.3%. Silver climbed to $27.673 and dropped to $27.145 before it also rallied back higher in late trade and ended with a loss of just 0.11%.
Euro gold remained at about €1028, platinum lost $1 to $1652.50, and copper gained over 5 cents to about $3.76.
Gold and silver equities waffled near unchanged and ended with slight gains.

Oil rose after the Energy Information Administration reported that crude inventories rose just 1 million barrels, gasoline inventories fell 1.9 million barrels, and distillates fell 500,000 barrels.
The U.S. dollar index traded mixed as traders digested economic data in the US and watched developments with Europe’s debt problems.
Treasuries fell markedly as the Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P rose over 1% on better than expected jobs data.
Among the big names making news in the market today were Tiffany, Deere, and UBS.
