The Metals:
Gold traded about 1% lower in Asia and London before it fell as much as $36.52 to as low as $1371.78 by about 10:30AM EST, but it then rallied back higher in the last few hours of trade and ended with a loss of just 1.9%. Silver fell to as low as $27.978 before it also bounced back higher in late trade, but it still ended with a loss of 5.14%.
Euro gold fell to under €1043, platinum lost $23.25 to $1674.00, and copper gained another 5 cents to about $4.09.
Gold and silver equities fell about 2% by midmorning and remained near that level for the rest of the day.

Oil remained lower after the Energy Information Administration reported that crude inventories fell 3.8 million barrels, gasoline inventories rose 3.8 million barrels, and distillates rose 2.2 million barrels.
The U.S. dollar index saw slight gains while treasuries fell again in continued reaction to Obama’s plans to cut taxes.
The Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P waffled near unchanged in anticipation of economic data.
Among the big names making news in the market today were Bank of America, Fortune Brands, Morgan Stanley, Costco, Home Depot, Orexigen, and Citigroup.
