The Metals:
Gold reversed modest overnight gains and fell to see a $6.50 loss at $1364.70 by late morning in New York, but it then jumped back higher in the last couple of hours of trade and ended near its last minute high of $1378.70 with a gain of 0.56%. Silver fell to as low as $28.636 by about 8AM EST before it also rallied back higher in New York and ended near its last minute high of $29.178 with a gain of 1.22%.
Euro gold climbed above €1047, platinum gained $3.25 to $1698.25, and copper gained over 4 cents to about $4.15.
Gold and silver equities fell about 1% by midmorning, but they then rallied back higher for most of the rest of trade and ended near unchanged.

Oil found slight gains on an outlook for colder weather.
The U.S. dollar index rose as the euro fell after Moody's credit ratings agency downgraded Ireland's debt and “European Union leaders agreed to the outline of a plan for a permanent crisis fund that would replace the current rescue fund when it expires in 2013.”
Treasuries rose on fed purchases while the Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P traded mixed and near unchanged in quiet trade.
Among the big names making news in the market Friday were Bank of Montreal and Marshall & Ilsley, Visa, and MasterCard.
