The Metals:
Gold climbed as much as $10.29 to as high as $1388.19 in Asia before it fell to see a $1.85 loss at $1376.05 by about 10:30AM EST in New York, but it then rallied back higher in the last few hours of trade and ended near its earlier high with a gain of 0.55%. Silver rose to $29.38 and fell to $28.76 before it also rallied back higher and ended with a gain of 0.48%.
Euro gold climbed above €1056, platinum gained $5.25 to $1703.50, and copper gained another 5 cents to about $4.20.
Gold and silver equities rose over 1% at the open before they fell to see slight losses about an hour into trade, but they then rallied back higher for most of the rest of the day and ended near their earlier highs.
The Economy:
There were no major economic reports today and there are none due out tomorrow.

Oil rose on expectations for increased energy demand from more cold weather and holiday travel.
The U.S. dollar index rose as the euro fell “after the European Central Bank released data showing it sharply reduced purchases of European government bonds in the latest week.”
Treasuries fell as the Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P traded mostly slightly higher on relief over the tax cut plan.
Among the big names making news in the market today were Ernst & Young, AT&T, and Boeing.
