The Metals:
Gold climbed $4.35 to $1409.05 in Asia before it fell to see a $4 loss at $1400.70 in London, but it then rallied back higher for most of trade in New York and ended near its early afternoon high of $1413.99 with a gain of 0.59%. Silver followed a similar pattern and ended near its early afternoon high of $30.664 with a gain of 1.09% at a new 30-year closing high.
Euro gold fell to about €1068, platinum gained $10.50 to $1756.00, and copper fell slightly to about $4.31.
Gold and silver equities traded mostly slightly higher and ended with modest gains.
The Economy:
Tomorrow at 8:30AM EST brings Initial Jobless Claims for 12/25 expected at 416,000. At 9:45 is Chicago PMI for December expected at 61.5, and at 10AM is the Pending Home Sales report for November expected at -3.0%.

Oil fell on expectations for inventory builds in tomorrow’s holiday delayed inventory report.
The U.S. dollar index fell and treasuries added to early gains after today’s $29 billion 7-year note auction sold at a high yield of 2.83% with a bid to cover of 2.86.
The Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P also found modest gains on today’s successful treasury auction.
Among the big names making news in the market today were Groupon, BP, and BJ’s Wholesale.
