The Metals: Gold jumped up to as high as $1376.15 by about 9AM EST before it fell back off into the close, but it still ended with a gain of 0.55%. Silver surged to as high as $29.052 by midmorning in New York before it also fell back off, but it still ended with a gain of 2.01% Euro gold rose back over €1023, platinum gained $11.50 to $1821, and copper climbed a couple of cents to about $4.42. Gold and silver equities rose over 1% at the open and remained near that level for the rest of the day.
