The Metals:
Gold fell $4.15 to $1355.65 in London, but it then climbed to as high as $1366.74 by late morning in New York and closed with a gain of 0.34%. Silver fell $0.17 to $29.88 in Asia before it rose to as high as $30.715 in New York and then fell back off a bit in the last few hours of trade, but it still ended with a gain of 1.6%.
Euro gold climbed to almost €1012, platinum gained $16 to $1821.00, and copper gained over 9 cents to a new all-time high at about $4.62.
Gold and silver equities rose roughly 2% by midmorning and remained near that level for the rest of the day.
The Economy:
There were no major economic reports today, but President Obama revealed his budget. – “President Barack Obama proposed a budget on Monday that would cut the deficit by $1.1 trillion over the next 10 years, but Republicans said it did not curb spending deeply enough.”
Tomorrow brings Retail Sales, Empire Manufacturing, Export and Import Prices, Net Long-Term TIC Flows, and Business Inventories.

Oil fell as the U.S. dollar index found slight gains on euro weakness that stemmed from worries over another debt crisis in Europe.
Treasuries rose on debt worries that held the Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P near unchanged.
Among the big names making news in the market today were MGM, GE, Pandora, Boeing, Emergency Medical and Clayton Dubilier, and EchoStar and Hughes Communications.
