The Metals:
Gold climbed almost $10 to $1463.79 in Asia before it fell back off in London and saw a slight loss at $1452.40 at about 7AM EST, but it then rose to a new session high of $1473.90 by early afternoon in New York and ended with a gain of 1.18%. Silver climbed to $41.38 in Asia before it fell back to $40.50 in London, but it then rose to a new session high of $41.743 by early afternoon in New York and ended with a gain of 3.45% at a new 31-year closing high.
Euro gold rose to about €1016, platinum gained $17.20 to $1787.20, and copper fell slightly to about $4.28.
Gold and silver equities rose over 1% by midmorning and remained near that level for the rest of the day.

Oil rose as the U.S. dollar index fell on poor economic data.
Treasuries pared early losses after today’s $13 billion 30-year note auction sold at a high yield of 4.531% with a bid to cover of 2.83.
The Dow and S&P turned higher in the last hour of trade while the Nasdaq remained lower on mixed earnings reports.
Among the big names making news in the market today were Zipcar, Goldman Sachs, Progressive, WaMu, Fidelity, JPMorgan, and MGM Resorts.
