The Metals:
Gold fell $4.40 to $1582.60 in Asia, but it then rose to as high as $1607.09 in New York and ended just $1.25 away from this past Monday’s new all-time closing high with a gain of 0.88%. Silver climbed to as high as $40.267 and ended with a gain of 2.82%.
Euro gold rose to about €1115, platinum gained $9.75 to $1791.75, and copper climbed a few cents to about $4.41.
Gold and silver equities rose over 1% by midmorning and remained near that level for the rest of the day.

Next week’s economic highlights include the Case-Shiller 20-city Index, Consumer Confidence, and New Home Sales on Tuesday, Durable Goods Orders and the fed’s Beige Book on Wednesday, Initial Jobless Claims and Pending Home Sales on Thursday, and GDP, the Employment Cost Index, Chicago PMI, and Michigan Sentiment on Friday.

Oil rose on economic optimism after the temporary fix to Greece’s debt problems.
The U.S. dollar index and treasuries found slight gains on hopes that “U.S. lawmakers were nearing a deal to raise the borrowing limit and avoid a default.”
The Dow fell on Caterpillar’s poor results while the Nasdaq and S&P were able to close with modest gains on easing worries over various debt problems.
Among the big names making news in the market Friday were Netflix, GE, Caterpillar, Morgan Stanley, News Corp., Twitter, Verizon, Wendy’s, McDonald’s, Apple, Ford, and Reynolds American.
