The Metals: Gold fell all the way to $1666.76 by about 2PM EST before it bounced back higher in the last couple of hours of trade, but it still ended with a loss of 2.43%. Silver slid to as low as $30.67 by late morning in New York before it also rallied back higher in late trade, but it still ended with a loss of 2.01%. Euro gold fell to about €1246, platinum lost $37.50 to $1548, and copper fell 10 cents to about $3.30. Gold and silver equities fell about 3% by midmorning before they rebounded a bit in afternoon trade, but they still ended with almost 2% losses. Tomorrow at 8:30AM EST brings third quarter GDP expected at 2.5%. The GDP Deflator is also expected at 2.5%. At 2PM brings FOMC Minutes from the fed’s November 2nd meeting. The Markets: 
Charts Courtesy of http://finance.yahoo.com/ Oil fell as the U.S. dollar index and treasuries rose on worries about the U.S. Budget that sent the Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P about 2% lower. “Lawmakers on a special debt- reduction committee are poised to announce they failed to reach agreement and dissolve congressional gridlock, kicking tax and spending issues into the 2012 election year.” “After months of talks, the high-profile congressional effort to rein in the ballooning U.S. debt is expected to end in failure on Monday with negotiators announcing they could not bridge deep divides over taxes and spending cuts to reach a deal.” Among the big names making news in the market Friday were MF Global, Gilead and Pharmasset, Alleghany, and Warren Buffett. The Commentary: “The $1680 level is an important chart area as it has served to function both as overhead resistance and as downside support depending on the status of the gold market at the time that price has neared this area. In today's session, it is acting as a downside support level thus far holding price from dropping further as the risk trades are once again taken back off.
Should this critical level fail to stem the decline in gold, price will fall into the next band of support which is near and just above the $1640 level, a level that also coincides with the rising 150 day exponential moving average. That moving average has seen value-based buyers emerge over the last two months so we can expect it to uncover similar buying once again should price move this low.
