The Metals:

Gold climbed to as high as $1720.30 by a little before 9AM EST before it fell back off a bit in New York, but it still ended with a gain of 1.86%.  Silver shot to as high as $32.30 and ended with a gain of 3.18%.

Euro gold rose to about €1286, platinum climbed to $1537.20, and copper gained 9 cents to about $3.36.

Gold and silver equities rose about 3% at the open and remained near that level for the rest of the day.

The Economy:

Secret Fed Loans Gave Banks Undisclosed $13B  Bloomberg

U.S. Household Debt Fell 0.6% in Third Quarter, New York Fed Survey Finds  Bloomberg

Tomorrow at 9AM EST brings the Case-Shiller 20-city Index for September expected at -3.0% and at 10AM is Consumer Confidence for November expected at 42.5.

Oil rose as the U.S. dollar index fell on renewed optimism about Europe.

Treasuries reversed early losses and ended with a slight gain on speculation about what may happen next in Europe.

The Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P shot over 2% higher on indications of strong retail sales this past holiday weekend.

Among the big names making news in the market Friday were Citigroup, Tiffany, Commercial Metals, Toyota, and Best Buy.
