The Markets:

Charts Courtesy of http://finance.yahoo.com/

Oil erased early gains and ended near unchanged as the U.S. dollar index jumped higher in the last couple of hours of trade following word that S&P may cut the ratings of several European countries, including Germany.

Treasuries fell as the Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P rose in early trade on optimism about new austerity measures and other plans in Europe aimed at solving the ongoing debt crisis, but those moves reversed following the announcement from S&P.

Among the big names making news in the market Friday were Samsung, MetLife, and Apple.
